The Windham Theatre Guild continues the celebration of their 25th season with the Main Stage Dinner Theatre production of a wonderfully funny show Opening Night written by Norm Foster, Canada's most popular playwright, known for his familiar Neil Simon comedy style.
Opening Night opens Friday, September 18th at the Burton Leavitt Theatre, 779 Main Street, Willimantic. It's the story of Jack and Ruth Tisdale who are about to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary with an evening at the theatre. It's a dream come true for Ruth and a nightmare for Jack who would rather be home watching the World Series. Its opening night at the theatre - the director is nervous, the actors impossible and Jack's antics light the fuse that explodes like a time bomb of hilarity. This hysterically funny "backstage" play by Canada's premier writer of comedies is zany, witty and bright. This is one opening night you won't want to miss
The WTG welcomes back Gordon E. Hansen from Hampton as Director for Opening Night. Gordon has been active in theatre for decades. His resume runs the gamut from actor to director to producer and ranges through the alphabet from Anastasia to Zoo Story. In the late 60's he won two best director awards at Flagg Court Playhouse in Brooklyn. He appeared in featured roles at Manhattan's West 41st Theatre in The Crucible. In the 70's he appeared at the Huntington Theatre in Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolfe. He won a best actor award from the Association of Community Theatres on Long Island. In Connecticut he starred as Herb in I Ought to be in Pictures for UConn's Nutmeg Theater. When the Burton Leavitt Theatre opened in September 2003, Gordon was both pleased and honored to have been selected as director for Over The River and Through The Woods, the first show in the new theater.
