Connecticut's Westport County Playhouse will offer classes for children in grades K through 8 October 19-November 23. The classes are offered for grades K through 8, and are designed to encourage the development of life-long living skills, creativity, and confidence. Information about each specific class appears below.
Grades K-1
Telling Tales
In this creative drama class, students act out children's literature and create their own stories.
Mondays, 4 - 5pm
Grades 2-3
Improv for Kids
This class will teach the fundamentals of the art of improvisation, as students invent new worlds and create original characters, using movement, drama, and music. Wednesdays, 5 - 6pm
Grades 4-5
Acting Basics
Focus on fundamentals of acting through character development, improv, and scene/monologue study. Learn basic theater terminology, blocking, and motivation. In the final class, students will showcase their work.
Tuesdays, 5 - 6:30pm
Create a Character
Students create original characters from their imaginations using techniques of improvisational acting. Students learn to make strong character choices and imagine characters' relationships and environments.
Wednesdays, 6 - 7:30pm
Grades 6-8
Finding Your Voice
Students learn how to give life to the stories of their imaginations and dreams through writing exercises and improvisation work. This class bridges the gap between word and body, as students learn how to present their ideas confidently and fluently in a supportive, team environment. The final class will include a demonstration of these techniques and a presentation of their work.
