Westport Country Playhouse will provide a special offer on Cyber Monday on Monday, November 26, and participate in #GivingTuesday™ on Tuesday, November 27.
“If you’re one of the millions shopping online this Cyber Monday, we hope you’ll stop by The Playhouse website where you’ll find an exciting, one-day-only deal on a 2013 subscription,” said Michael Ross, Playhouse managing director. “And this year we are especially honored to be participating in Giving Tuesday, a first ever, national effort to support charitable organizations like The Playhouse. What better way to celebrate the spirit of the season than to give back to a favorite, local non-profit organization?”
On Cyber Monday, The Playhouse will offer 5-Play 2013 Season Subscriptions to Preview Week performances (the first Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of each production) for $100 each. The special offer will be on sale Monday, November 26, 12:00am – 11:59pm, online only at www.westportplayhouse.org. The offer is not transferable or applicable for previously purchased subscriptions; cannot be combined with any other special or offer; “Taste of Tuesday” and “LGBT Night OUT” subscriptions are excluded.
The 5-play 2013 Subscription Series includes A.R. Gurney’s “The Dining Room,” a witty and heartfelt story of the American family and its vanishing traditions set in the most singular of rooms, where people gather, meals are eaten, conversations begin, and generations converge, directed by Mark Lamos, April 30 – May 18; “The Show-Off” by George Kelly, a funny, surprising, and moving story of a family in upheaval when their youngest daughter becomes engaged to a brash loudmouth, directed by Nicholas Martin, June 11 – 29; “Loot,” a wickedly funny send-up of larcenous, lascivious behavior among the English middle classes by the master of British farce Joe Orton, directed by David Kennedy, Playhouse associate artistic director, July 16 – August 3; the second world premiere in as many seasons, “Oblivion” a touching and funny—and very modern—tale of parents, children, and the gulf that sometimes exists between them, commissioned by Playwrights Horizons and developed by Steppenwolf Theatre Company, written by Carly Mensch, currently a co-producer on Showtime's "Weeds,” and directed by Mark Brokaw, August 20 – September 7; and John Murray and Allen Boretz’s “Room Service,” a madcap American farce about a producer and his ragtag bunch of actors who try to raise money for a Broadway show as they scramble to evade their hotel bill, directed by Mark Lamos, October 8 – 26.
On #GivingTuesday™, The Playhouse will partner in the first-of-its-kind national effort to celebrate philanthropy and the giving season. Taking place November 27, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, #GivingTuesday™ will harness the power of social media to create a national moment around the holidays dedicated to giving, similar to how Black Friday and Cyber Monday have become days that are, today, synonymous with holiday shopping.
Donations received by The Playhouse during #GivingTuesday™ will be used to fund The Playhouse’s 5-play season of “Theater Worth Talking About” productions; student matinees, serving 3,000 youngsters annually; educator workshops that are free to the region’s teachers; Together at the Table Family Dinners, productions plus dinner, all for $10 for each family member; and symposia, talkbacks, and literary salons, open to the public free-of-charge to enrich the theater-going experience. Gifts made in honor or in memory of others will be recognized with a special card to the recipient.
