The Warner Theatre's Summer With the Met series continues on Thursday, June 2 at 7:30 pm with an encore performance of Verde's Il Travatore.
Four of contemporary opera's leading Verdi stars-Sondra Radvanovsky, Dolora Zajick, Marcelo Álvarez, and Dmitri Hvorostovsky-sing the lead roles in the composer's thrillingIl Trovatore, seen in a fast-paced production by David McVicar that has won critical praise for its fluid narrative and psychological acuity. Marco Armiliato conducts Verdi's passionate tale of love and revenge, which features some of his most famous music, including the "Anvil Chorus."
All ticket holders are invited to attend a pre-Opera Lecture by Opera Expert Nunzio DeFilippis at 6pm with reception to follow. Nunzio De Filippis has a degree with honors in political science fromQueensCollegeand 43 doctoral credits fromCUNYGraduateCenter. A businessman for 35 years, he began teaching opera at the age of 51 to share his lifelong passion for the subject. He has taught Opera history, Italian Opera, an introduction to Verdi, the Bel Canto Operas, and Mozart's Operatic Works, to name a few. His work as a volunteer teacher was featured in the New York Times and he has been recognized byNew York's Governor George Pataki.
