The Hartt School presents the Richard P. Garmany Chamber Music Series featuring Regina Carter on Thursday, November 17, at 7:30 PM, in Millard Auditorium, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford. One of the most versatile and imaginative artists of our time, violinist Regina Carter will appear with her five-person ensemble to perform tracks from Reverse Thread, her recently-released, internationally acclaimed album of African roots music. A 2006 winner of a MacArthur Foundation award - the so-called "genius" grant - Ms. Carter is an iconic figure in contemporary American music. This Series has been made possible by a grant from the Richard P. Garmany Fund at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. The Hartt School Dance Division presents its fall concert Friday, November 18, at 7:30 PM, Saturday, November 19, at 2:00 PM and 7:30 PM, and Sunday, November 20, at 2:00 PM in Lincoln Theater, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford. Hartt Dances featuring a new adaptation of Martha Graham's 1946 masterwork Dark Meadow created especially for The Hartt School and coached by Martha Graham principal dancers Peggy Lyman-Hayes and Miki Orihara. This piece also features live music by Carlos Chavez played by the Performance 20/20 Honors Chamber Ensemble and original sets by Isamu Noguchi. Also on the program is José Limón's Dances for Isadora, celebrating the passionate and tragic life of "the mother of modern dance" and the piano music of Frederic Chopin; George Balanchine's Serenade (1st movement), which premiered in Hartford in 1934; and new works by Katie Stevinson-Nollet and Stephen Pier, both featuring live music performed by 20/20.
