Two great new shows have been announced at Windham Theatre Guild. See the lineup below!

The Lion in Winter

Downton Abbey meets Game of Thrones...it's a modern-day classic that features dungeons, adultery and sibling rivalry. Comedic in tone, dramatic in action - the play tells the story of the Plantagenet family who are locked in a free for all of competing ambitions to inherit a kingdom.

The queen, and wealthiest woman in the world, Eleanor of Aquitaine, has been kept in prison since raising an army against her husband, King Henry II. With Eleanor out of prison only for holidays, the play focuses on the inner conflicts of the royal family as they fight over both a kingdom, as well as King Henry's paramour during the Christmas of 1183. As Eleanor says, "every family has its ups and downs," and this royal family is no exception. The original 1966 Broadway production was a Tony Award winner, followed by the 1968 Academy Award winning film version.

Rob Grgach makes his WTG directorial debut with a talented cast including Angela Dias, Geoff Roelants, Matt Bessette, Nathan Cusson, Nick Luberto, Jennifer MacPherson and Nicholas Bennett. Jack Nardi and Tricia Hul have outdone themselves with a stunning set that captures the period and mood of the production. The show runs February through 24th and you don't want to miss the opportunity to see this seldom done play.

The Lion in Winter is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, INC.

Fat Pig centers on Tom, a typical young professional who becomes involved in a relationship with a witty and charming plus-sized librarian, Helen. Tom is conflicted when his work associates, Carter and Jeannie, discover Helen and are highly judgmental and insulting about Helen's weight and appearance. The play follows Tom and Helen's relationship through a poignant, and eye opening production that hits on topics relevant to today's audience.

The play explores how current beauty standards for women can be ridiculous and demonstrates how men are often pressured to make a 'smart choice' about a woman rather than a choice that is best for them. Fat Pig premiered off-Broadway in 2004. Hailed as a provocative comedy that makes the audience think, in 2005 the play received the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Off-Broadway Play and was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy. Fat Pig represents what Fractured Theatre @ WTG hopes to provide: productions that may make you laugh, cry, shake your fists in anger, ponder and invoke conversation. Deemed as the "edgy little cousin" of the Windham Theatre Guild, Fractured Theatre shows are those productions that may not quite fit a main stage season, but provide a new outlet for more risqué, contemporary pieces for audiences, young and old.

Under the direction of Jim York, Fat Pig will be performed by newcomers to the Burton Leavitt Stage- Justin Smith (Tom), Elizabeth Reynolds (Helen), Aaron Swartz (Carter) and WTG familiar favorite, Meg Clifton (Jeanette).

March 2 & 3 at 7:30pm and March 4 at 2pm. Tickets: Adults $19----Students/Seniors (60+) $16----UCONN/Eastern/QVCC $14 (with ID)----Children under 12 $12. Reserve your tickets now by calling 860-423-2245 or visit http://www.windhamtheatreguild.org/. Tickets Also Available at the Door No Refunds
