Tonight, July 11, the curtain will rise on TheatreWorks New Milford's East Coast premiere of Adam Peck's drama, BONNIE & CLYDE. The show opens at 8:00 p.m. for a four-week run.

Based on the true story, BONNIE & CLYDE is an intimate re-telling of the final hours of two young people who stopped at nothing to realize their American dreams. Crossing the border of an unnamed state in a stolen Ford V-8 with a trunk of sawn-off shotguns and bootleg whiskey, Bonnie and Clyde (Marilyn Hart of New Milford and Adam Stordy of Sandy Hook) have found one last place to hide. Time is ticking - they're on the run from the law and from reality, and it won't be long before one of them catches them first. With humor, desperation, and tenderness, these legendary outlaws are made human again, resolving their issues and getting their affairs in order.

"Eighty years ago, these two kids were only in their twenties when they caught the attention of the public and never let go," said director and set & costume designer Joseph Russo of New Milford. "And yet for all the movies, miniseries, and memorabilia, we actually know very little about them. Getting to see the people behind the legends is one of the reasons why it's been such a pleasure to direct the East Coast premiere of Adam Peck's beautiful and exciting new play. This is only the second production of his play in theUnited States and, to my knowledge, the fourth in the world."

"Unlike most BONNIE & CLYDE retellings, this stage version doesn't glorify the legendary outlaws," said TheatreWorks President Glenn R. Couture of Ansonia. "They're not American Robin Hoods, they're simply two ordinary people stuck in a way of life structured by their surroundings and exaggerated by the media. The outstanding performances of Marilyn [Hart] and Adam [Stordy] just draw you in along with the great scriptwriting of Mr. Peck."

The show's crew includes co-producer Bill Hughes, lighting designer and co-producer Richard Pettibone, live music by John Bolster, and stage management by Reesa Roccapriore.

BONNIE & CLYDE made its world premiere at The Tobacco Factory Theatre in Bristol, UK, on October 5, 2010. The production is not based on the 1967 film or the 2011 Broadway musical of the same name. The critically-acclaimed play debuts 80 years after the infamous couple's final days. The Guardian said of the play, "It is all vividly and hauntingly realised...on atmosphere and poetic, episodic glimpses into these extraordinary lives, this is impressive."
