TheaterWorks under the leadership of Producing Artistic Director Rob Ruggiero has announced it is adding PLAYING THE ASSASSIN by David Robson to its 2014-2015 season.
This explosive new play is about professional football, the reverence and passion it inspires in its players and its fans, and the fallout when a simple game goes too far. The play is inspired by a true story about a former NFL player known as "The Assassin" - renown for an unforgiving style of play and tackles so brutal he puts one competitor in a wheelchair for life.
Producing Artistic Director Rob Ruggiero said "This play is provocative and topical. The opportunity presented itself to stage PLAYING THE ASSASIN and we decided it was a good fit for TheaterWorks and our audience. The piece is engaging and exciting. It's the kind of theater that starts and propels important conversations."
PLAYING THE ASSASSIN will run from March 20 through April 26, 2015. Joe Brancato will direct. Joe's work was seen previously at TheaterWorks when he directed audience favorite TRYST in the summer of 2012. The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Diety by Kristoffer Diaz will no longer be included in the 29th season.
