An encore presentation of the 2019 Warner Theatre's Nancy Marine Studio Theatre performance of A CHRISTMAS CAROL: A SOLO PERFORMANCE FEATURING DICK TERHUNE will be available for streaming on the Warner Theatre's YouTube channel and Facebook page, premiering on December 18, 2020 at 7:00 pm. It will be available for viewing online until Friday, January 1, 2021 at 6:00 pm. There is no fee to watch, but donations are always accepted.

Our version is adapted from Charles Dickens' A CHRISTMAS CAROL: A GHOST STORY OF CHRISTMAS by PATRICK R. SPADACCINO.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL was first published on December 19, 1843. It has been adapted into a variety of mediums, with the first theater production taking place in London within six weeks of publication. The run lasted for 40 nights before transferring to the Park Theatre in New York City.

In May 1843, Charles Dickens was invited to a fundraising dinner to help London's Charterhouse Square infirmary, a place that cared for the elderly and impoverished. Ironically, most of those attending the dinner were the very wealthy men who had made their fortunes in London. Following this dinner, Dickens read the 1843 Parliamentary report describing the child laborers.

His final inspiration for this tale was the result of a visit with his older sister's family in Manchester whose son was disabled. Dickens was confronted by the realities of what life was like for impoverished disabled children. His nephew Harry became his inspiration for the character of Tiny Tim. The breadth of poverty in post-Industrial Revolution Manchester, England was chilling and by the time Dickens traveled back to London, he knew that he needed to write something to address the inequities of the time.

In this performance, the Warner Theatre returned to the origins of this tale with a solo performance of A CHRISTMAS CAROL, inspired by Charles Dickens himself, performed by the incredibly talented Dick Terhune. Mr. Terhune portrays more than 30 characters in this solo performance.

This encore presentation is made possible by the generosity from The Marine Family. The Warner Stage Company's presenting sponsor is Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. The Nancy Marine Studio Theatre series is sponsored by Northwest Community Bank.
