The Lipstick Project Presents The First-Ever All Female Version Of Kander & Ebb's CABARET ImageThe Lipstick Project in collaboration with the Darien Arts Center Stage will present the first-ever all female version of Kander and Ebb's iconic Tony Award-winning musical, CABARET, Friday, April 27 through Saturday, May 12, 2018 at the Darien Arts Center (2 Renshaw Road, Darien, CT). Tickets are now on sale.

The Lipstick Project, founded in Stamford, Connecticut in 2014, promotes and creates artistic opportunities exclusively for women. With productions ranging from Shakespeare to contemporary plays and musicals, the company strives to give women a safe and exciting space in which to perform and make art.

"Although CABARET takes place almost a century ago, it holds a mirror up to our time: a populace looking for an escape from the rise of fascism," said Lipstick Project spokesperson Julie Thaxter-Gourlay. "In this dangerous time of tribalism and nationalism, women have a unique voice in telling this story."

With music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and a book by Joe Masteroff, CABARET takes audiences deep into the dark and seedy nightlife scene in 1930's Germany on the eve of Hitler's rise to power. Based on Christopher Isherwood's Berlin Stories, CABARET follows the interlocking stories of a cabaret singer, an American writer, and the denizens of Berlin's Kit Kat Club as they are caught up in the swirling maelstrom of a changing society. Led by the enigmatic and dazzling Emcee, CABARET is an intoxicating theatrical experience, featuring the well-known musical classics "Don't Tell Mama," "Maybe This Time," and, of course, "Cabaret."

Produced by Nova Hall, directed by Carin Zakes, with choreography by Caitlin Roberts and musical direction by Dwayne Condon, the cast of CABARET is led by Julie Thaxter-Gourlay as the "Emcee," Abigail Henderson as "Cliff," Rachel Schulte as "Sally Bowles," Betty McCready as "Fraulein Schneider," Marilyn Olsen as "Herr Schultz," Megan Kellogg as "Fraulein Kost," and Shelley Lepetich as "Ernst."

Tickets for CARARET are $25 - $30 and are available online at www.darienarts.org. Performances take place Fridays and Saturdays at 8 PM and Sundays at 2 PM Friday April 27 through Sunday, May 12, 2018.

The Lipstick Project was founded in Stamford, CT in 2014 with the mission of promoting and creating artistic opportunities for women. Starting out with only a backyard to rehearse in and one night to perform, today the troupe can be seen in various theatrical spaces putting on multiple productions each year with all-female casts. These shows range from Shakespeare, with which the group got its start, to original music revues; from more contemporary plays to the upcoming musical. They also strive to make a positive impact in the community, both through the content of their work and through raising funds with each show for a charity, non-profit, or person in need. As they continue to grow, they hope to reach an even wider net of women+ in the community, giving them a safe and exciting space in which to perform and make art. The Lipstick Project is where women+ finally get to step into the spotlight.
