The May 27th performance will be our Pay-What-You-Can performance where you name the price of your ticket.

When the Doily Cart Opera (not at all the same thing, or based upon the famous D'oyly Carte Opera Company) makes a brief stop in New Britain, shenanigans will ensue. This not quite ready for prime time group of players will set sail with the beloved swashbuckling comedy that boasts one of the most famous patter songs in musical theatre history.

A show suitable for children, parents and grandparents alike, Gilbert & Sullivan's hilarious, hopeful farce follows young Frederic (Peter Bailey of Bristol), a duty bound young man who has mistakenly been apprenticed to an ineffectual but raucous band of pirates. He disavows the pirates' way of life and falls for the beautiful Mabel (Johanna Regan of Killingworth), Major General Stanley's songbird daughter. Frederic's melodious tones win over the heart of Mabel, but when the Pirate King (Hal Chernoff of Simsbury) discovers General Stanley (David Schancupp of New Haven) has lied and preyed upon the pirates "incredulous simplicities", to keep the pirates from carrying off his bevy of beautiful daughters, and "ingenuous paradox" may prevent the budding romance and lead to the death of "The very model of a modern Major-General."

Join us for songs, swordplay, and a band of tap dancing bobbies, as Hole in the Wall Theater lends its own unique brand of whimsy to one of the most well loved and timeless musicals ever written.

About Hole in the Wall Theater:

Hole in the Wall Theater (HITW) has been a leader and beacon in the Greater Hartford arts community since 1972. It is an award-winning, non-profit community theater and staffed entirely by volunteers.

HITW was founded by Ray Shinn and Ted Guhl; both of whom were instrumental in the theater's mission and longevity. It is HITW's goal to present theater to all regardless of resources. Unique in its creation as well as the manner in which it was run, HITW was the only theater in the state to run solely by its members through its biweekly gatherings, termed "General Meeting." General Meeting is responsible for choosing the plays presented, maintaining the physical plant, and creating, revising, and upholding the philosophy by which HITW was run.

Over the course of four decades, the theater has seen many homes throughout New Britain including Oak Street, North Street, Harvard Street, and its current home on Main Street. Despite its location, the philosophy of presenting Quality Theater to everyone remains the same.
