The Hartt Community Division presents two All School Recitals on Saturday, January 7, at 3:30 PM and 5:00 PM, in Bliss Music Room, Fuller Music Center, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford. The Hartt School and Goodspeed Musicals have teamed up January 13 through 15 at Goodspeed Opera House, 6 Main Street in East Haddam, CT, for the Seventh Annual Festival of New Artists. This weekend-long creative gathering of authors, actors, artists, and musical theatre lovers includes staged readings of three brand new works, and features Hartt senior Music Theatre students along side Equity Guest Artists. Attend one reading or the entire weekend of events!

This year’s staged readings include: Harmony, Kansas by Anna K. Jacobs and by Bill Nelson; Not Wanted On The Voyage by Brian Hill and Neil Bartram; and The Dogs of Pripyat by Jill Abramovitz, Aron Accurso, and Lean Napolin. This year’s Festival also includes a Friday night New Artists Cabaret; Saturday Morning Breakout sessions with some of theatre’s most influential people; New Musical Preview: A Preview of a New Musical Headed for The Norma Terris Theatre in 2012; Festival Dinner; The Noel Coward Symposium featuring Broadway luminaries; Saturday Night Festival Cabaret; and a special Meet the Writers Reception.

The Hartt Community Division presents the West End String Quartet on Saturday, January 14, at 8:00 PM, in Berkman Recital Hall, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford. The program includes Mozart: String Quartet in F Major, K.590; Neely Bruce: A String Quartet for Alvin; and Brahms: String Quintet in F Major, Op. 88 (Ruth Bergman joins the quartet on violin.) Join Hartt faculty members Anton Miller and Katherine Winterstein, violins; Rita Porfiris, viola; Astrid Schween, cello; and David Westfall, piano for a program that includes Dohnanyi Quintet for Piano and Strings, and Beethoven String Quartet Op. 74 "Harp."
