The Hartt School Announces its 2009-2010 Vocal Studies Division Performance Schedule

Sing for the City will take place on Sunday, October 11, at 4:30 PM, at The cathedral of St. Joseph, 140 Farmington Avenue, Hartford. Choruses from The Hartt School, including the Hartt Camerata, Hartt Chamber Choir, Hartt Chorale, and Concentus, will be joined by local school choruses in a festival concert to raise funds for the Upper Albany Neighborhood Collaborative (UANC). Several guest conductors, as well as Hartt faculty members Edward Bolkovac, Stuart Younse, and Carolina Flores, will lead an exciting and varied program.

Celebrate The Holidays with Hartt on Friday, November 20, at 7:30 PM, at Christ Church Cathedral, 45 Church Street, Hartford. Ring in the holidays with the choirs of The Hartt School in a program featuring music by Bach, Britten, Gabrieli, Monteverdi, Poulenc, Purcell, and Randall Thompson, as well as seasonal music. Hartt's talented undergraduate voice majors will be featured as soloists. Conductors include Edward Bolkovac, Stuart Younse, and Carolina Flores.

The Magic Flute, abridged, by W.A. Mozart, will take place on Sunday, December 12, at 7:30 PM in Berkman RecitAl Hall, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford.

The Hartt Symphony Orchestra joins the Vocal Studies Division to present The Tender Land, this season's Main Stage Opera by Aaron Copland. Performances are on Thursday, February 4, Friday, February 5, and Saturday, February 6, at 7:30 PM and Sunday, February 7, at 3:00 PM. Performances will be in Millard Auditorium, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford.

Hartt's annual Collage Concert, which is free and open to the public, features two acts filled with continuous music, dance, and theatre. Hartt's gift to the community, Collage takes place on Friday, February 12, and Saturday 13, at 7:30 PM, in Lincoln Theater, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford.

The Hartt Chamber Choir and Concentus will be joined by Hartt's talented undergraduate and graduate vocalists in an Early Music Program, on Sunday, March 7, at 4:00 PM at ST. James Episcopal Church, 19 Walden Street, West Hartford. The performance will feature lute songs by Dowland and Campion, motets by Palestrina, Victoria, Lassus, and Tallis, as well as choruses and arias by Bach, Handel, and Purcell. Conductors include Edward Bolkovac, Gabriel Lofvall, and Sara Donihe.

The Hartt School Choruses (Edward Bolkovac, director) and Hartt Symphony Orchestra (Christopher Zimmerman, director), with the Hartford Chorale (Richard Coffey, director), will present Benjamin Britten's War Requiem, conducted by Christopher Zimmerman. This performance will be on Sunday, May 2, at 7:30 PM, at The cathedral of St. Joseph, 140 Farmington Avenue, Hartford.

The Hartt School is the comprehensive performing arts conservatory of the University of Hartford that offers innovative degree programs in music, dance, and theatre.
