The Hartt School Presents Lions Gate Trio

The Hartt School Presents the Hartt Symphony Orchestra

The Hartt School Presents Its 11th Annual Gala

Make plans now to attend The Hartt School's 11th Annual Gala on Saturday, October 6, 2012, at 6:00 PM, at the Hartford Marriott Downtown. Considered one of the most entertaining evenings around, the Gala will feature inspiring performances by talentEd Hartt collegiate and Community Division students, an enticing array of live and silent auction items, fine dining, and After-Glow dancing for those who don't want the evening to end!  All Gala proceeds benefit Hartt scholarships, tuition assistance, and educational programming.  Individual tickets begin at $250 per person and sponsorship opportunities are available.  For more information, contact gala manager Monique Aduddell at 860.768.4806or at harttgala@hartford.edu.

 

The Hartt School Presents The Cherry Orchard

Theatre Division Director Alan Rust directs Anton Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard, the first show of the 2012-2013 Theatre season.  Hartt composition student Matthew Primm composes original music for this performance.  After the death of her young son and then following a lover to Paris, Madame Ranevsky returns to her beloved home in Russia with its well-known cherry orchard to find it will soon be auctioned off to pay down the family’s debt.  Lopakhin, a local businessman, proposes a solution to the problem that haunts this family, for whom his grandfather was once a slave.  Find out what Madame Ranevsky and her family decide to do with their beloved cherry orchard Thursday through Saturday, October 11-13, at 7:30 PM, and Sunday, October 14, at 3:00 PM, in the Kent McCray Theater, Mort and Irma Handel Performing Arts Center, 35 Westbourne Parkway, Hartford.  Admission is $20 with discounts for seniors, students, and groups.  Please call the University Box Office at860.768.4228 or 800.274.8587 or visit www.hartford.edu/hartt for more information.

Hartt Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra- Saturday, October 13

Eric Rombach-Kendall, Director of Bands at the University of New Mexico, guest conducts Masquerade Variations, which he commissioned from Gryc and premiered 14 years ago.  Don’t miss this exciting chance to hear the Hartt Wind ensemble perform the world premiere of Gryc’s Concerto for Wind Ensemble.  The Hartt Symphony Orchestra performs Fantasy Variations by Gryc and features Hartt faculty member Carrie Koffman, saxophone, and Concerto for Orchestra by Bartok.  This performance begins at 7:30 PM, in Millard Auditorium, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue. Hartt Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra- Sunday, October 14

This second concert honoring Stephen Gryc features three world-class soloists with the Hartt Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble.  Lenny Sigal, concert master of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, plays the concerto he premiered with the HSO written for him by Gryc.  The Wind Ensemble features the principal trumpet player (Phil Smith) and trombonist (Joe Alessi) of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra on pieces written for them by Gryc.  In addition, Phil Smith plays a new solo work with the Wind Ensemble by Joe Turrin, a fellow composition professor and friend of Gryc.

The Hartt School Presents the Richard P. Garmany Chamber Music Series featuring Tempesta di Mare (Philadelphia Baroque Orchestra)

The Hartt School is proud to present Tempesta di Mare (Philadelphia Baroque Orchestra), performing the first concert of the 2012-2013 Richard P. Garmany Chamber Music Series, on Thursday, October 18, at 7:30 PM, in Millard Auditorium, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford.  A special pre-concert dinner precedes this performance and begins at 6:00 PM in the University’s 1877 Club, and a post-concert reception with the artists follows the performance.  This internationally acclaimed 22-player orchestra, which performs on Baroque instruments, is recognized for its imaginative programming and performance of early music.  The conductorless ensemble boasts an ongoing series of highly praised recordings on the Chandos label and a busy touring schedule on both sides of the Atlantic.  Patrons may purchase Series subscriptions or individual tickets to the performances and/or the pre-concert dinners.  Admission to the concert is $35 with discounts for seniors, students, and groups.  Admission to the pre-concert dinner is $35 per person.  Please call the University Box Office at 860.768.4228 or 800.274.8587 or visit www.hartford.edu/hartt for more information.

University Professor and Former Hartt Dean Malcolm Morrison directs Actor Training students in Sophocles’ Antigone, Thursday through Saturday, October 18-20, at 7:30 PM, and Sunday, October 21, at 3:00 PM, in the Edward C. and Ann T. The Hartt School Presents Miss Saigon

For the first Music Theatre production of the season, Hartt students perform Miss Saigon, with music by Claude-Michel Schonberg; lyrics by Richard Maltby Jr. and Alain Boublil; adapted from original French lyrics by Alain Boublil; additional material by Richard Maltby Jr.; orchestrations by William P. Brohn; and under the direction of Hartt faculty member Kevin Gray.  Miss Saigon is the epic tale of a courageous young Vietnamese girl, Kim, and her journey of survival in post war Vietnam and Bangkok.  Based loosely on Puccini's Madame Butterfly, and set against the backdrop of Saigon in the turbulent final days of the U.S. involvement, Miss Saigon tells the story of ordinary people caught in the extraordinary circumstances of war.  Miss Saigon runs Thursday through Saturday, October 25-27, at 7:30 PM, and Sunday, October 28, at 3:00 PM, in Lincoln Theater, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford.  Please note that, due to construction, the roadway between The Hartt School and Lincoln Theater is closed to vehicles and pedestrians, so plan accordingly and use the alternate route, following signs posted on campus.  Admission is $20 with discounts for seniors, students, and groups.  Please call the University Box Office at 860.768.4228 or 800.274.8587 or visit www.hartford.edu/hartt for more information.
