The Hartt School presents a variety of music, dance, and theatre performances this April, many of which are free, and all are open to the public. All events take place at the University of Hartford's main campus, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford, CT, unless otherwise noted. Richard P. Garmany Chamber Music Series featuring Miró Quartet, with Special Guest Colin Currie, Percussion

Now in its second decade, the Miró Quartet is acknowledged as one of America's premier quartets, having won virtually every important chamber music prize available, including the Naumberg Award and the Avery Fisher Career Grant. For this appearance, the Miró will be joined by the sensational Scottish percussionist Colin Currie for an evening that will include several works written expressly for these five musicians, along with traditional quartet-only repertoire. The program includes: Quartet in C minor, D. 703, "Quartettsatz" - Schubert (1797-1828); Nagoya Marimbas for percussion - S. Reich (b. 1936); Since Brass nor Stone... for string quartet and percussion - A. Goehr (b 1932); Mojave for percussion - M. Torke (b. 1961); Molto adagio from Quartet in B minor, Op. 11 - Barber (1910-1981); all three movements of Strophe (2013) for vibraphone and string quartet - J. The King Stag

The King Stag is a fairy-tale romance set in a magical kingdom. Director Annmarie Davis utilizes puppetry to take the audience on a journey to Serendippo, where love is thwarted by mischief, mayhem, and the destructive voices of love and ambition. All seems lost, but, as with all fairy-tales, everything ends happily ever after.

The Drowsy Chaperone

As a middle-aged musical theatre fan sits alone, playing a recording of his favorite musical, the fictional 1928 hit The Drowsy Chaperone, the show comes to life. This play-within-a-play is crammed full of every cliché, gag, and gimmick from the golden age of musicals. Directed by Alan Rust, musical direction by Phil Rittner, and choreography by Ralph Perkins.
