The Hartt Community Division of the University of Hartford will present three performances of the Nutcracker Suite, which due to its shorter running-time and a comedic approach to the battle scene, is particularly suitable for families with young children. The performances will take place on Friday, December 18, at 7:00 PM and Saturday, December 19, at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM in Millard Auditorium on the University of Hartford campus, 200 Bloomfield Ave., West Hartford. Tickets, $20 for adults and $15 for children under the age of 18, are available at the University of Hartford box office. Visit www.hartford.edu/hartt or call 860.768.4228 to purchase tickets.
Local dance students will appear in the starring roles of the Sugar Plum Fairy, Cavalier, Snow King and Snow Queen, Clara, Drosselmeyer, the Rat King and, of course, the Nutcracker. The cast is drawn from students of The Hartt Community Division, the youngest of whom is four years old. Guest dancers from The Hartt School Dance and Theatre Divisions and the National Ballet of Puerto Rico will join the production.
The Nutcracker Suite is a unique version of the beloved Tchaikovsky ballet, choreographed and staged by Miguel Campaneria, chair of the Hartt Community Division dance department. Nutcracker Suite previously has been staged at The National Ballet of Puerto Rico and at Point Park College in Pittsburgh.
