Featuring a cast of Broadway stars alongside Broadway's finest rock band - The Ridgefield Playhouse, Ridgefield Magazine Broadway and Cabaret Series and Pepsi Rock Series presents Jesus Christ Superstar - The Rock Opera onSaturday, March 2 at 2pm and 8pm. This is a unique adaptation of the multiple Tony Award winning, and Laurence Olivier Award-nominated, classic Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice production.

If you were lucky enough to see last season's "The Who's Tommy" In Concert, you won't want to miss "Jesus Christ Superstar"! Considered one of the most iconic musicals ever written, "Jesus Christ Superstar" includes legendary hits such as "Everything's Alright," "I Don't Know How To Love Him," and "Gethsemane." A global phenomenon from its inception, Jesus Christ Superstar has wowed audiences for over 40 years. The timeless work set against the backdrop of an extraordinary and universally known series of events, but seen, unusually, through the eyes of Judas Iscariot. Make it a great night out with dinner and a show - visit Bernard's (20 West Lane, Ridgefield) and enjoy a prix fixe menu - reservations suggested.

Coupled with its youthful potency, Jesus Christ Superstar creates an intense musical experience. It was the first musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice to be produced for the professional star and first came to major theaters when it debuted on Broadway in October 1971 at the Mark Hellinger Theater in New York. Less than 12 months after the Broadway show opened, the rock spectacle went to London and exploded onto the West End at the Palace Theater in August 1972. The rest is history and Jesus Christ Superstar is one of the most beloved musicals of all time.

Andrew Lloyd Webber is a composer with few peers. His best known musicals in addition to Jesus Christ Superstar include: Cats, Evita, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Phantom of the Opera, Sunset Blvd, and School of Rock. Tim Rice collaborated with Webber on Evita, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, as well as Jesus Christ Superstar. Rice has collaborated with other distinguished composers including Elton John (The Lion King, Aida) Alan Menken (Aladdin, King David, and Beauty and the Beast), and Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson (Chess). This is not simply a revival, but a unique adaptation of the multiple Tony Award winning and Laurence Olivier Award nominated, classic Andrew Lloyd Weber and Tim Rice rock opera!

For tickets ($75), call or visit the box office, 203.438.5795, or go online at ridgefieldplayhouse.org. The Ridgefield Playhouse is a non-profit performing arts center located at 80 East Ridge, parallel to Main Street, Ridgefield, CT.
