The Bodyguard opened at The Bushnell last night, bringing the audience to its feet for a standing ovation. Grammy® Award-nominee Deborah Cox was set to play the leading role of Rachel Marron, but it was her understudy Jasmin Richardson that stole the show on opening night.
Based on the 1992 film starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner, the musical starts with a dramatic opening of a loud gunshot, instantly reeling in the crowds.
The story revolves around pop singer Rachel Marron who is on her way to an Oscar while dodging a terrorizing stalker. The former secret service agent, Frank Farmer (Judson Mills) is hired to help protect Marron and her son, and soon the two dabble in more than just a professional relationship.
But when Marron's stalker gets closer, the pair's love and safety are compromised, putting everyone edge and causing unwanted choices to be made.
The show features the film's incredible soundtrack, including "One Moment in Time," "Run to You," "I Wanna Dance with Somebody," and of course "I Will Always Love You."
The Bodyguard runs from February 20-25th. For tickets, visit The Bushnell's website here.
