The Hartt School Community Division presents The Nutcracker Suite, featuring American Ballet Theatre dancer and HCD alumna Meaghan Hinkis as the Sugar Plum Fairy, and live orchestra by the Connecticut Youth Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Dan D'Addio, on Saturday, December 18 at 7:00 PM and Sunday, December 19 at 2:00 PM, in Millard Auditorium at the University of Hartford's main campus, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford. Tickets are $25, $15 for seniors and students. There are no discounts available for this performance, which is entirely funded by ticket sales. 


Meaghan Hinkis is a recent graduate of the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School at the American Ballet Theatre. She began training there under full scholarship in the elementary division and just completed the advanced level under Franco De Vita. Hinkis began dancing at New England Dance and Gymnastics Center under Loree Cloud and continued her studies at The Hartt School under Susan Brooker and Peter O'Brien. Upon moving to New York City, Meaghan continued with her private training under Fabrice Herrault. Hinkis was the recipient of the Youth America Grand Prix Hope Award and was the Dance Educators National Dancer of the Year. Hinkis danced the role of Clara with the ABT Studio Company and with Radio City Music Hall's Christmas Spectacular for two years. She attended the ABT Summer Intensive as a National Training Scholar performing the role of Sylvia in 2006 and Kitri in 2007. In 2007, Hinkis attended the Stiefel and Stars Program. Hinkis was named a Bender Foundation Scholar and was the recipient of the Carmen D. Barth Scholarship. Hinkis joined ABT II in 2007, became an apprentice with the main Company in March 2010, and joined the corps de ballet in October 2010.

The Hartt School is the comprehensive performing arts conservatory of the University of Hartford that offers innovative degree programs in music, dance, and theatre.
