On Friday, May 8, The Sherman Playhouse will premiere Lanford Wilson's touching romantic comedy, TALLEY'S FOLLY. The curtain rises at 8:00 p.m. for a two-week run.

At the end of World War II, Matt Friedman (Michael Wright, Sandy Hook), a Jewish immigrant who has spent his life keeping others at a distance, returns to the small town in Missouri where he first met Sally Talley (Stacy-Lee Frome, New Milford). Nothing like her conservative Protestant family and neighbors, Sally is a nurse with deep misgivings about the country's future. After a lifetime of believing they'll never truly belong in the world around them, Matt has worked up the courage to ask Sally for her hand, and convince her that they do, in fact, belong - with each other.

"When we started workshopping this piece as a reading last September, I had audience members, mostly married couples, say to me that they could deeply identify with these two 'misfits' as if they were a part of their own stories of courting and romance," said director, producer and Sherman Playhouse president Robin Frome. "My sincerest and heartfelt thanks goes out for this opportunity to experience a very fine artistic journey through the hearts and souls of these two dynamic and beautiful actors and their characters."

Mr. Frome also shared the duties of set design and lighting design with Al Chiapetta. The show's remaining crew consists of sound designer David White and stage manager Phair Haldin.

TALLEY'S FOLLY was first performed at the Circle Repertory Company in New York on May 1, 1979. The play made its Broadway debut at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre on February 20, 1980 and went on to win the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding New Play and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The play is the second in Lanford Wilson's "Talley Trilogy," between The Fifth of July and Talley & Son. The New York Post called the play "funny, sweet, touching and marvelously written."

TALLEY'S FOLLY runs May 8,9,10 15,16,17. Curtain time is 8:00 p.m. Fridays & Saturdays, with 2:00 p.m. Sunday matinees on May 10 and 17. Tickets for all shows are $22 for adults and $11 for children 12 and under.
