The storied history of the Staples Players program in Westport, CT, which has won the Moss Hart Award on multiple occasions, added a new chapter on Saturday night. A very special ten-day period for the Staples Players cast and crew of "A Chorus Line" ended with a surprise announcement during the curtain call after Saturday evening's final performance.
The show had been a huge success, drawing over 8,000 during its 7-show run, directed by David Roth and Kerry Long. And, one of the cast members, Amanda Horowitz, who played the role of "Val," had just released her first single on iTunes, "We're Givin' It All We've Got" (as reported on BroadwayWorld.com on March 11).
But perhaps the biggest moment of all happened when Marvin Hamlisch's widow, Terre Blair, came up on stage and, after lavishing praise on the performance, issued a surprise invitation to the cast to be a part of the celebration tribute in Hamlisch's memory that will take place in New York City on June 2 (Hamlisch's birthday). Veterans of stage and screen will also be performing at the tribute event.
