The Palace Theatre opened its doors 85 years ago this June 2nd under the direction of Stamford resident Mary Vuono who owned and operated the theater as a vaudeville and motion-picture house in 1927.  The essence of vaudeville was variety, and in that spirit, The Palace Theatre will bring a wide assortment of offerings to the Harman Stage for its 85th anniversary season.

“To celebrate our 85th Anniversary, our rich history, and to build upon this storied tradition, the best is yet to come as we announce a wonderfully diverse 2012-2013 anniversary season,” said SCA Executive Director, Elissa O. Getto.  “Presenting a wide variety of the best contemporary artists from around the globe, we truly have something for everyone at The Palace. What we are announcing today is just a preview of our season with many more artists to be added during the year.”

A few Palace favorites are returning – comedians Ron White and Bill Cosby – as well as first time performers on the Harman Stage, country artist Jerrod Niemann and pop culture icon William Shatner in his one man show, Shatner’s World.  The season will also feature the legendary The Temptations & The Four Tops, Grammy award-winning The Chieftains, who are celebrating their 50th anniversary, The Midtown Men and comedians Kathleen Madigan and Colin Mochrie & Brad Sherwood: The Two Man Group.  Emmy Award-winning puppeteer Jim West will perform Dinosaurs! on July 11th.  Sesame Street Live will be returning in the spring, and a staged production of The Ugly Duckling and The Tortoise & The Hare will bring two favorite children’s classics to life.

“Community is such an important part of our mission here at The Palace, and we are thrilled to partner with the Bennett Cancer Center this year as part of their Paint the Town Pink breast cancer awareness campaign,” said Ms. Getto.  “On October 13th, SCA will present breast cancer awareness advocate Giuliana Rancic, and $10 from each ticket sold to her appearance will be donated to Paint the Town Pink.”

William Shatner has had a long, strange and successful career, and his one man show Shatner’s World: We Just Live in It takes you through all the twists and turns that life in show business can sometimes throw at you.  Gold Circle tickets are available for the November 8th performance which include prime seats and a post-show meet & greet with Mr. Shatner.

In addition to these shows, SCA welcomes back resident companies the Stamford Symphony, the Connecticut Ballet and the Namaskaar Foundation for a full season of performances.  The Stamford Symphony returns with six orchestra classics concerts, and the Connecticut Ballet brings the Nutcracker back to The Palace in December.  The Namaskaar Foundation will present Ballet Folklorico de Mexico in September, the Royal Drummers & Dancers of Burundi in October, and Dr. John & The Blind Boys of Alabama “Spirituals to Funk” in November.

Tickets for select events will go on sale to SCA members on June 6th at 11:00am and will go on sale to the general public on June 25th at 12:00 noon.  Visit www.scalive.org for full details regarding our schedule as we add additional events as our season progresses, and please become a member of SCA’s Circle of Friends to take advantage of all the benefits SCA has to offer.  Membership benefits include exclusive ticket access to the best seats in the house, advance notification about upcoming events, access to presale tickets, and recognition in our performance programs.
