Square One Theatre Presents MOTHERHOOD OUT LOUD in Honor of Mother's Day

MOTHERHOOD OUT LOUD, a Joyous, Moving, Hilarious and Thrilling Theatrical Event, Concludes SQUARE ONE THEATRE's 26th Anniversary Season at its NEW Performance Space...Stratford Academy Who says Mothers should only be acknowledged one-day-a-year? Just four days after Mother's Day (May 8, 2016), Square One Theatre concludes its 26th Anniversary Season with a rousing three-week celebration of Motherhood Out Loud conceived by Susan R. Rose and Joan Stein and directed by Tom Holehan. Both hilarious and heartbreaking, Motherhood Out Loud takes the audience on a rollercoaster ride of joys, sorrows and perplexities every family shares by having or being a mother. Motherhood Out Loud dares to tell the audience what they weren't told in "what to expect when you're expecting."

Performances of Motherhood Out Loud are Thursdays through Sundays beginning May 12 and continuing through May 29 (2016) at the theatre's new location on the stage of Stratford Academy at 719 Birdseye Street in Stratford, Connecticut.

When entrusting the subject of motherhood to such a dazzling collection of celebrated American playwrights, including Beth Henley (Pulitzer Prize-winning Crimes of the Heart) and Lisa Loomer (The Waiting Room and Distracted) among others, what results is a joyous, moving, hilarious and altogether thrilling theatrical event. Utterly unpredictable, Motherhood Out Loud shatters traditional notions about parenthood, unveils its inherent comedy and celebrates the deeply personal truths that span and unite generations.

Motherhood comes in all shapes and sizes, and Motherhood Out Loud, a series of monologues and vignettes on the diverse and cyclical nature of maternity, never fails to strike both the funny bone and the heart. Anyone who is or has a mother, a stepmother, a foster mother, or anything in between can definitely relate to and enjoy this insightful piece. What makes the piece work so well is that its portrait of motherhood shows all facets of a family. From adoption to surrogacy to gay parenting to stepmothers, no stone is left unturned.

The cast of Motherhood Out Loud includes two Square One Subscriber Award-Winning favorites Lucy Babbitt (Stratford) and Lillian Garcia (Woodbridge) plus two newcomers Leigh Katz, (Westport) and Kiel Stango (Waterbury). Square One Theatre continues its 26th Season at its NEW LOCATION on the stage of Stratford Academy at 719 Birdseye Street in Stratford, Connecticut.

Square One has re-configured Stratford Academy's expansive stage into an intimate 64-seat black box-type theatre. The audience is literally seated (in new padded chairs) on the stage with the actors. With this re-designed, modern venue no audience member will be more than 15 feet from the stage. Ample parking is available in the school parking lots.

An added bonus...on Tuesday, May 31, the Friends of Square One Theatre invites audience members and the general public to Play It Again, Square One for a post-performance discussion of Motherhood Out Loud with the director and available cast members at 12noon in the Lovell Room of the Stratford Library located at 2203 Main Street in Stratford, Connecticut. Free coffee and tea will be available, participants may bring a sandwich.
