The Square One Theatre Company in Stratford, Connecticut has announced that over three-quarters of its subscribers have already renewed for the theatre's 25th Anniversary Season. Discounted 2014-15 subscriptions to the four-plays (A Walk in the Woods, Stratford Characters, Good People and The Winslow Boy) are currently available for purchase through November 22 (2014).
Square One Theatre was founded in 1990 and opened with a celebrated production of Lee Blessing's Pulitzer Prize-finalist, A Walk in the Woods. To open its 25th Anniversary Season, Square One Theatre is reviving this still-timely dramatic comedy hailed as "A brilliant and funny play of ideas concerning the historic conversations between an American negotiator and a Russian diplomat." A Walk in the Woods will feature Square One favorite Pat Leo (Monroe), who originally played the American negotiator 25 years ago...this time in the role of the Russian. Joining him will be Damian Long (Norwalk) making his Square One debut as the American negotiator. The play opens on Friday, November 7 and continues through November 22 (2014).
The new season also includes playwright Steven Otfinoski's Stratford Characters, which is being produced in conjunction with the Town of Stratford's 375th Anniversary Celebration. Otfinoski's original play introduces such local historical notables as Captain John Selby, Igor Sikorsky and Goody Bassett among others in a lively visit laced with humor and poignancy. It is scheduled for one week only, Monday, December 15 through Sunday, 21 (2014).
Good People, the Tony Award-nominated play by David Lindsay-Abaire, will begin the new year at Square One opening Friday, March 6 and continuing through Saturday, March 21 (2015). With his signature humor, Lindsay-Abaire explores the struggles, shifting loyalties and unshakeable hopes that come with having next to nothing in America. Set in Boston's Southie neighborhood, Good People offers a deeply moving, humane and often hilarious new play.
Concluding the 25th Anniversary Season is Terence Rattigan's classic British drama, The Winslow Boy. Based on actual events, the play concerns a father's determination to clear his young son's reputation after the boy has been accused of stealing and is expelled from naval college. A gripping tale that resonates long after the final curtain, The Winslow Boy, which follows in the tradition of such popular classics at Square One as The Heiress and Rutherford and Son, opens Friday, May 15 and continues through Saturday, May 30 (2015).
Discounted four-play subscriptions at $50 each are currently available online or via mail order through Square One Theatre Company, 656 Longbrook Avenue, Stratford, CT 06614.
