Square One Theatre Company to Present STRATFORD CHARACTERS

Presented in association with The Town of Stratford's 375th Anniversary Committee, the Square One Theatre Company continues its 25th Anniversary Season honoring the Town's 375th Anniversary with Steven Otfinoski's Stratford Characters.

Stratford Characters, features dramatic monologues, each laced with lively humor and poignancy, by famous people from Stratford's past. In celebration of the Town's 375th Anniversary, this original play by Stratford playwright Steven Otfinoski introduces such local historical notables as Captain John Selby, Igor Sikorsky, Adam Blakeman, William Samuel Johnson and Goody Bassett among others. The play has already been presented in England as part of the Stratford-Upon-Avon Annual Festival of the Arts.

The cast of Stratford Characters includes Alexandra Burke (Fairfield) as Gloriana Stirling (sic), Sally Arlette Garcia (New Britain) as Goody Bassett; Barry Hatrick (Milford) as Igor Sikorsky, Will Jeffries (Southbury) as William Samuel Johnson, Grègoire Mouning (North Haven) as Jack Arabas, Frank Smith (Milford) as Adam Blakeman, David Victor (Fairfield) as (Captain John Selby) and Peter Wood (Stratford) as David Boothe.

The director of Stratford Characters is Square One Theatre's Artistic Director Tom Holehan.

Otfinoski's other staged works include New York productions of Remember Then, The Bookworm, Stooge Night and Cutting Edge. His Still Life with Dead Grizzly, about the life and death of explorer Meriwether Lewis, was a winner of the Rhode Island Playwrights' Competition. The Princess and the Pea, a children's musical, won the annual playwriting award from the Community Children's Theatre of Kansas City, Missouri. Finding Work was a runner-up in the Actors Theatre of Louisville's Ten-Minute Play Contest.

Otfinoski is a member of the Dramatists Guild. He has studied musical theater writing with the late Lehmann Engel at BMI and was a member of the ASCAP Musical Theatre Workshop under the direction of Charles Strouse.

He earned an MFA in creative writing from Fairfield University in Fairfield, Ct, where he currently teaches literature and writing in the core writing program. His novel, "Throne of the Third Heaven" received an honorable mention in the 2011 Fairfield Book Prize Competition.

Stratford Characters is the final event of the year-long celebration of Stratford, Connecticut's 375th Anniversary Celebration.
