As part of its educational offerings, Sea Tea Improv will be teaching two levels of improv courses to the public this fall. For the first time, this swift-growing professional theater company will be offering an Intro to Improv workshop, a Foundation-Level course called "The Character," and a Focus-Level course about "Second Beats." The courses will each be taught by a founding member of the acclaimEd Hartford-based Improvisational Theater Company.
All classes will be held at Sea Tea Improv's brand-new studio space: 75 Pratt St, 5th floor, Room 512, in Hartford, Conn.
"Improv for Beginners," taught by Greg Ludovici, is for everyone-- no comedy required. In this one-day workshop, Sea Tea Improv will introduce the basic techniques and games that professional improvisers and comedy writers use to collaboratively discover fun ideas, characters, and scenes. Our number one rule is "make your partner look good," so come try improv in a supportive, no-pressure environment, and learn from a professional improviser. Our course instructors have graduated from the premier comedy schools in the northeast, including New York City's Upright Citizens Brigade, and ImprovBoston. The class will be held on Sunday, September 30th, 3 PM to 5 PM. Workshop is limited to 15 participants. Registration is via paypal. http://bit.ly/SeaTeaBeginners
The Foundation Course: "The Character," taught by Vladimir John Perez will focus on character development through physical exploration. Players will invent, refine and inspire characters that are rich and consistent. Students will also learn how to clearly create, communicate and maintain objects within the environment of the scene. This course ends in a share performance for an invited audience. This course requires no previous improv experience or courses. Those with improv experience will benefit from the curriculum targeting specific improv skill-sets. All class meetings are from 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM on Wednesday nights, from Oct 10th through December 12th. The class is $199 and limited to 16 students. Register via PayPal:

The Focus Course: "The Second Beat," taught by Dan Russell will explore beyond the initial scene into second beats in this focus on longform improvisation. Players will be honing in on skills such as tag outs, bending the space, walk-ons, advancements, callbacks, group games and scene painting. The course ends in a share performance for an invited audience. Prerequisite: Completion of two "Foundation" level courses (The Scene, The Game, The Character), or completion of one Foundation course & concurrent enrollment in a Foundation course, or permission from Sea Tea Improv. All class meetings are on Sunday afternoons from 3PM to 6PM, from October 7th - December 2nd. This course is one of Sea Tea Improv's 2 "Focus" level adult improv courses: this course, focused on longform improvisation, and one future course to be focused on shortform improvisation. It costs $199 and is limited to 16 students.
