SUPER, OR, HOW CLARK GRAVES LEARNED TO FLY Set for Playwrights on Park Reading Series

Join Playhouse on Park in designating the Greater Hartford area as a premiere destination for the cultivation of innovative theatrical work! The Playwrights on Park Reading Series was created for this very purpose, and our next evening in this exciting series is Tuesday, June 28 at 7:30pm with Gina Femia's Super, or, How Clark Graves Learned to Fly.

The mission of Playwrights on Park is to produce original plays and musicals, therefore fostering emerging and established playwrights. Each reading features a new work, where audience members participate in a talk back session with the playwright, director and cast members. Audience members are also provided with response cards at the end of each reading.

Super, or, How Clark Graves Learned to Fly is about the shrinking of the middle class as seen through the eyes of a typical American Family - The Graves. Father Samuel has lost his once thriving construction business, forcing the family to downsize significantly. Each member is coping with their personal loss of power differently; Mother Mary is addicted to scratch-off lotto tickets, sister Dot cannot stop picking her skin, Father Samuel has gotten mean and Clark -well, Clark is trying to be everyone's hero, including his new girlfriend, Laney.

When Laney's dreams of running away begin to seem like they'll become a reality, Clark must choose between his family and his chance at happiness. Intercut with scenes from Clark's comic book world, Super, or How Clark Graves Learned to Fly explores the increasing hunger crisis as it spreads across America, asking the questions How do we learn to Fly? and What does it really mean to be Super?

Gina Femia's plays include Super, or, How Clark Graves Learned to Fly (semi-finalist The O'Neill and The Princess Grace Award), For The Love Of (Rattlestick Playwrights Theatre reading fest), The Violet Sisters (MadLab with NY Madness, Lather, Rinse, Repeat), Mahogany Brown and the Case of the Disappearing Kid (The Brick's Comic Book Theatre Festival), We Are the Gods (The Brick's Oven Reading Series, Finalist for The Inkwell) and Five-Sided Triangle (Dixon Place's HOT!Fest, The Downtown Urban Theatre Festival). Her solo shows include Undead Anonymous (The United Solo Festival, published on Indie Theatre now), It's Like Love (Dixon Place) and Happily Never Ever (The United Solo Festival, Dixon Place, The Estrogenius Festival). She is a current member of Pipeline Theatre's PlayLab (The Mermaid Parade) and an Audrey Resident Alumni with New Georges (Accidental Burlesque). She is a member of Lather, Rinse, Repeat Collective, a New Georges Affiliated Artist and a New York Madness Company Member. MFA, Sarah Lawrence College (Lipkin Prize in Playwriting).
