SUMMER SHORTS, a special limited-run production of one-act plays, opens Friday night, August 26 at 8 PM at Town Players' Little Theatre.

Written and previously performed by the Garner Players of Garner Correctional Institute of Newtown, these plays reveal a depth of talent, variety and insight from these new playwrights. Several former members of the Garner Players are directing and performing in this production as their debut performances in community theater. These entertaining and insightful works give voice to the experience of otherwise silent members of our community.

The plays include "Was the Word" by Mark Aldrich and Henry M., "Misery Needs Company" by J.V. Harvey, "Culture Wars" by Mark Aldrich, "The Right Thing?" by Marquis, and "Can You Spare a Few Quarters?" by J.V. Harvey.

Directors for this exceptional evening of entertainment include Mark Aldrich, J.V. Harvey and Timothy Huebenthal. SUMMER SHORTS includes the talents of Mark Aldrich, Ken Anderson, Tony Benedetti, Maggi Heilweil, Timothy Huebenthal, Terry Polvay and Jeff Rossman.

SUMMER SHORTS runs August 26 - September 3. Curtain times are 8 PM Fridays and Saturdays, with one Sundaymatinee on August 28 at 2 PM. Tickets are $18 general admission; $10 children 10 and under, and free for Town Players members.

Tickets may be purchased in advance by visiting the theater's website, www.newtownplayers.org. Reservations may also be made by calling the box office at 203-270-9144.

This production is made possible in part by a generous grant from the Newtown Cultural Arts Commission.

Town Players' Little Theatre is a community theater, currently in its 81st season, located on 18 Orchard Hill Road, just off Route 25 (a mile north of the Sand Hill Plaza) in Newtown, Conn.
