Baron Wolman, first chief photographer for Rolling Stone Magazine, not only witnessed what is without a doubt the most important period of change in popular music and popular culture, but his photographs helped shape it. He is one of the most collectible and globally recognized music photographers of the 20th century. His role with Rolling Stone Magazine encapsulated and distilled the most important events and changes as they were taking place. Each issue spoke to this evolving youth culture in a language that was all its own and Baron's photos captured the events and personalities that visualized the music. Baron's photos began with the first issue of the magazine in October 1967 and appeared on 22 covers along with countless other photos that appeared within the magazine including iconic images of Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin (a neighbor of Baron's), the Grateful Dead, The Who, Frank Zappa, Jim Morrison, Johnny Cash, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, Santana, Bob Dylan and more. In addition to his highly acclaimed photographs, Baron will debut a new very limited edition, deluxe signed book featuring Jimi Hendrix photos taken at the Fillmore West on February 1968.
Baron will appear at the gallery on the opening weekend (Friday, November 2nd through Saturday, November 3rd, , as well as the opening Thursday evening reception.) and will showcase a specially curated collection of his photographs through Nov 18th. On Saturday, Nov. 3rd at 5:30pm a special 15-minute film on Baron Wolman & his legacy will be shown.
