THEATER BARN PLAYWRIGHTS GROUP hosts Memoirs...an evening devoted to the life, works, and wit of Neil Simon Wednesday, September 16th at 7:30 pm

Brighton Beach Memoirs, The Odd Couple, The Sunshine Boys, Plaza Suite... Neil Simon's plays have kept us laughing for five decades. With empathy, humanity and humor, he has depicted familiar people and made them icons of American culture. What is the origin of his unparalleled creativity? What is the role of humor in theater? Join us for an exploration when The Theater Barn presents the third in its popular series of Playwrights Discussion Groups devoted to the lives and works of the most influential playwrights.

The 90-minute program begins with a brief biography of Neil Simon with an emphasis on the life experiences that are reflected in his work. Key attributes of his plays will be considered, followed by actors performing a staged reading of one of the trilogy of playlets from Plaza Suite. Upon completion of the reading, a moderator will guide attendees and actors in an open discussion where they are encouraged to share their feelings about the philosophy and methodology of the playwright as expressed in the presented work.

Refreshments will be offered during the discussion and a bibliography will be provided for further reading. A donation of $5 per person is requested to cover materials and refreshments.

Seating is limited. Those interested in attending are asked to register at ridgefieldtheaterbarn.org using our on-line form. You may also send us an email at theaterbarn@snet.net or call us and leave a message at 203-431-9850.
