All you need is an idea for a TV show and a little help from award-winning writer/filmmaker Katie Torpey to write a bona fide television series. Torpey will teach "TV Writing" on Tuesdays from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. beginning on September 17 thru November 5 at The Ridgefield Playhouse.

Her most recent project is the animated TV show "Mother UP!" starring Eva Longoria, which will premiere this October. This adult ed course will help would-be writers translate their passion into a new TV series. The focus of the eight-week workshop will be plot development, structuring a series for longevity, capturing a compelling theme and creating complex characters that audiences will love and want to follow. Students will also analyze what made TV shows from the past so popular and successful. The course objective is to help students create, develop and write original TV shows that they could potentially sell to Hollywood.

An award-winning writer and filmmaker with a Masters from UCLA Film School, Katie Torpey has worked for numerous studios and networks and sold several scripts. She has written and directed for both TV and film. Her successes include the studio films The Perfect Manand Truth about Kerry, which she directed. Katie also directed the self-help online product Design Your Life, launching this summer, and she co-created the animated TV show "Mother UP!" starring Eva Longoria, scheduled to premiere this October.

Katie has also written a book, Just Breathe, about her 130-pound weight loss and spiritual transformation. As a weight loss spokesperson for the Handel Group, Katie uses her spare time to help people all over the world lose weight.
