The United States' oldest theatre to house movies: The Bijou Theatre in Bridgeport, Connecticut is now reopened.

The Bijou Theatre was built and opened in 1910 by Mrs. Lillian Ashmun. It ran continually as a movie house until 2003, and it is steeped in rich history.  Respecting its unique heritage, the theatre has now been brought back to life over a century after its original opening.

The revival of The Bijou Theatre, a multi-functional venue with impressive integrity, restores to Bridgeport a lively symposium for film, theatre, art, comedy and music. The house has 202 seats (94 stadium, 108 cabaret including 2 sky view boxes), and an intimate stage, all equipped with lights and sound system. In addition to an old-fashioned concession stand there is a full service bar and, coming soon, full dinner service at the cabaret tables. The dominant focus will be independent films and cultural art performances but an ongoing stream of live music, comedy and theatrical productions will also be added.
