Just in time for Valentine's Day, the Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts at Sacred Heart University presents Let's Fall in Love starring two of Broadway's most celebrated stars, Rebecca Luker (Mary Poppins, The Music Man and The Sound of Music) and Howard McGillin (Phantom of the Opera, She Loves Me and Anything Goes) on Saturday, February 12 (2011) at 8pm.
Rebecca Luker has been hailed as "...a spellbinding soprano, effortlessly charming and unfailingly sweet of sound"(Washington Post) with Howard McGillin, "Among today's crop of musical theater leading men, one in particular stands out...in terms of sheer vocal brilliance and beauty. That man is Howard McGillin..." (David Hurst, In Theater). The evening will be under the musical direction of Broadway conductor/accompanist Joseph Thalken, one of Broadway's finest, who has worked extensively with major soloists and orchestras throughout the country.
From Richard Rodgers to Stephen Sondheim and beyond, it promises to be an unforgettable evening of romance. According to Luker and McGillin "We'll be singing some of the classic hits of Broadway and the American Songbook. They range from Harold Arlen's "Let's Fall in Love" to Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Some Enchanted Evening," with duets and solos from some of Broadway's greatest songwriters, including Cole Porter, Stephen Sondheim, Andrew Lloyd-Webber and some of the new and emerging writers of today."
Rebecca Luker's other theatre credits include Broadway's Nine, Showboat, The Secret Garden and The Phantom of the Opera as well as New York City Opera's X (The Life of Malcolm X) and Brigadoon. Off-Broadway, she appeared in Indian Blood, Can't Let Go and The Vagina Monologues. Her regional credits include Passion (Kennedy Center), She Loves Me (Reprise), Time and Again (Old Globe) and Harmony (La Jolla Playhouse). On television, she has guest starred in "The Good Wife," "Law & Order-SVU," CBS TV movie "Cupid and Cate;" "Matlock;" "An Evening with the Pops" and "An Oscar Hammerstein Celebration."
Howard McGillin is best known for his world record-setting appearances as the title character in Broadway's The Phantom of the Opera. He also appeared in Stephen Sondheim's musical Bounce, in its premiere at the Goodman Theatre and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. On Broadway as well as in London's West End, his many leading roles include Kiss of the Spider Woman, She Loves Me, Mack and Mabel, The Secret Garden, Anything Goes and Sunday in the Park with George.
