The Public Library of New London, in partnership with the Foundation Center of New York, will debut its new Non-Profit Resource Center and Cooperating Collection at a kick-off breakfast and workshop on Wednesday, June 6, at 8:00 am.
Recognizing that difficult economic times yield strained budgets for non-profits, the Public Library of New London will open a resource center to aid non-profits in their search and application for grants. The Cooperating Collection and the Non-Profit Resource Center offer non-profits, as well as individuals, the print and digital resources necessary to successfully research grant opportunities. With several databases listing over 100,000 foundations, corporate donors and grant making public charities, as well as a robust collection of books and periodicals covering topics ranging from non-profit management to social media and marketing for non-profits, the Non-Profit Resource Center and Cooperating Collection is one-stop shopping for organizations looking for information to thrive.
The Public Library of New London is the only Foundation Center Cooperating Collection in Eastern Connecticut. Established in 1956, the Foundation Center is the nation's leading authority on organized philanthropy and serves grant seekers, grant makers, researchers, policymakers, the media and the general public. Thousands of people visit the Center's web site each day and are served in its national network of Cooperating Collections.
"We understand that there are many non-profits in southeastern Connecticut that are struggling to make ends meet and to fully serve their clients," said Library Director Suzanne Maryeski. "There are times when non-profits have questions about best practices, fundraising, and human resources, but have no professional resources available. By setting up our Non-Profit Resource Center and Cooperating Collection we are part of the solution."
To kick off the grand opening of the Center, the Public Library of New London is inviting all area non-profits to attend a breakfast with Priya Morganstern, Esq., Director of Pro Bono Partnership of Hartford. Attorney Morganstern will present ABCs of Nonprofit Law. This important workshop is an overview of the key legal issues for Connecticut nonprofit organizations, including proper state and federal filing and disclosure requirements, political and lobbying activities, fundraising and revenue generating issues and much more. The Public Library will precede Attorney Morganstern's workshop with a tour of the Non Profit Resource Center and Cooperating Collection and a short demonstration of the databases.
The Cooperating Collection is a free resource and is available all hours the library is open. Please call 860-447-1411 ext 3 for more information or to register for this event. This project was funded by grants from the Community Foundation of Eastern Connecticut and the Liberty Bank Foundation.
