Provenance Center announces the opening reception, on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 5:00 p.m., of a solo exhibition of works by artist Eleanor Miller. The exhibit running time will be fromApril 21 - May 19, 2012. Provenance Center is located at 165 State Street, New London, Connecticut.
Eleanor Miller presents visions of the natural world, which possess an ethereal quality. Each image is safely ensconced in a terrarium-like amnion of spiritual reflection. Her paintings refer to the sublime as well as the small unseen things, all regarded with equal substance. Representational imagery is juxtaposed with dripping, abstracted and splotched paint on a textured surface. In her quest to represent, ". . . life's continuing process and the mystery of evolution," Ms. Miller transports us to a primordial world, without the great disturbance bestowed upon our planet by the phenomenon of civilization. Plant and animal life float through a mist of awakening, peacefully tending to a shared existence in which competition seems absent and harmony abundant. This work addresses the spiritual potency of nature, and celebrates the fragile balance between the natural and developed world in which we live.
