Playhouse on Park kicks off its 6th season with the American masterpiece Angels in America: Part 1: Millennium Approaches. Winner of the 1993 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award, the first part of Tony Kushner's epic depicts life in America during the 1980s. Touching upon the provocative topics of politics, religion, and the AIDS epidemic, Angels in America has been hailed as "a searching and radical rethinking of American political drama" (New York Times) and "the most ambitious American Play of our time" (Newsweek).
Featured in this production are Jim Shankman (Broadway: Grease, Once in a Lifetime; Off-Broadway: Perfect Crime) as Roy Cohn and Rae C. Wright (Obie Award for Sustained Excellence in Theatre; Off-Broadway: The Seagull, Angels in America) as Hannah. The eight person cast, where actors will play multiple roles, also includes Clark Beasley Jr. (Playhouse on Park: Of Mice and Men) as Belize, Tim Hackney as Joe, Kristen Harlow as Harper, James Parenti as Prior, Marty Scanlon as Louis, and Olivia Hoffman as the Angel.
