Tonight, April 25, The Sherman Playhouse will kick of its 2014 season with the outrageous English farce, SEE HOW THEY RUN by Philip King. The curtain goes up at 8:00 p.m. on this four-week run. Below, BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action!

Galloping in and out of the four doors of an English Vicarage are an American actor and actress, a cockney maid who has seen too many American movies, an old church lady who touches alcohol for the first time in her life, four men in clergyman's suits presenting the problem of which is which, for, disguised as one is an escaped prisoner and another a sedate bishop aghast at all these goings on. The result is SEE HOW THEY RUN, a madcap comedy in which the laughs just keep coming.

"Believe it or not, this British gem never had a Broadway run. Yet it's one of the most popular plays for community groups to perform in America," said director Francis A. Daley of Danbury. "And seven decades later, it remains arguably the funniest farce ever written. Please take my word for it...see the show for yourself and you'll have the biggest laugh of the year."

"In London, on opening night in 1945 the war was still on and three V-1 'buzz-bombs' went off nearby, causing one of the actors to complain that they drowned out his funniest lines," said producer and Sherman Playhouse president Robin Frome of New Milford. "Well that audience didn't budge, and judging from how this show has been cast and directed, it's as funny in 2014 as it was 69 years ago, and I don't think audiences will want a break from the laughter, bombs or not."

The cast consists of some of the region's finest actors: Kimberly Marcus (Danbury), Chris Marker (Sherman), Sara Panaccio (Southbury), Keli Solomon (New Milford), Steve Stott (Brookfield), Michael Wright (Newtown), Peter Pecora(Kent), and Dean Alexander and James Doherty (both New Fairfield).

Besides Daley and Frome, the show's crew consists of costumer Terry Hawley, sound designer David White, stage manager Valerie Lorimer, and lighting design by Petrino Design Studios.

SEE HOW THEY RUN made its West End premiere at The Comedy Theatre in London on January 4, 1945. The play debuted in America at Actors' Theatre in Plainfield, New Jersey, on May 11, 1949. Variety called SEE HOW THEY RUN a "Breathless show, fast tempo, plenty of laughs."

SEE HOW THEY RUN runs April 25,26 May 2,3,4 9,10 16,17,18. Curtain time is 8:00 p.m. Fridays & Saturdays, with 2:00 p.m. Sunday matinees on May 4 and 18. Tickets for all shows are $20 for general seating. On Thursday, April 24, all patrons are invited to attend a "Half-Price Preview Night" at 8:00 p.m. where all tickets are only $10.
