Stratford's Square One Theatre Company concluded its twenty-third anniversary season recently announced its annual Subscriber Award-Winners. The eighteenth annual awards were announced at a recent Readers Theatre Showcase event held at the Stratford Library. The theatre's over 1,000 subscribers voted for performers in various acting categories from the company's three-play, 2012-13 season. Scroll down for a photo of the winners!
Square One's critically acclaimed production of Lisa Loomer's contemporary dramedy, Distracted was the year's top winner taking three major awards including Outstanding Production.
Distracted was also cited for Outstanding Actress for its lead performer, Lillian Garcia (Woodbridge), as the mother of an ADHD-afflicted 9-year-old. Garcia is a previous winner for her roles at Square One in The Rainmaker, The Constant Wife and last season's The Good Doctor. Lucy Babbitt (Stratford) was also recognized for her Outstanding Cameo Appearance as a donut-binging mother in Distracted. Babbitt is a previous winner for her leading role in The Clearing. Named Outstanding Actor was John Bachelder (Milford) for his performance as a ghostly father giving advice to his son in A.R. Gurney's comedy, Black Tie. It was Bachelder's first appearance at Square One. Outstanding Featured Actor and Actress were Jim Buffone (Milford) and Alisson Wood (Stratford) for their roles as siblings in Black Tie. Wood was seen in Square One's production of The Clearing while Mr. Buffone made his Square One debut with Black Tie. Bachelder, Wood and Buffone are first-time winners of the Subscriber Award.
