Photo Flash: Connecticut Repertory Theatre Presents SHE KILLS MONSTERS

Connecticut Repertory Theatre (CRT) stages it's second Studio Theatre production of the 2017-18 season with "She Kills Monsters" by Qui Nguyen. Madeline Sayet will direct. She Kills Monsters finds a perfect balance between comedyand adventure and themes of death and loss, while appealing to the geek in us all. After losing her little sister Tilly in a car accident, Agnes attempts to get to know her better through the Dungeons and Dragons notebook she left behind. Immersed in a fantastic adventure full of monsters, homicidal fairies and elves, and 90s pop culture, Agnes learns more about her sister and the misunderstood gaming world she was a part of before she was abruptly taken away.

Madeline Sayet, a member of the Mohegan Tribe, grew up in Norwich, CT. Sayet was named to the Forbes' 2018 "30 under 30 List for Hollywood & Entertainment", is a TED Fellow, an MIT Media Lab Director's Fellow, a National Directing Fellow, and was a recipient of The White House Champion of Change Award. Her recent work includes "As You Like It" (Delaware Shakespeare), "The Winter's Tale" (Amerinda/HERE Arts), "Poppea" (Krannert Center, Illinois), "The Magic Flute" (Glimmerglass), "Macbeth" (NYC Parks), "Sliver Full of Moon" (various), "Daughters of Leda" (IRT/Culture Project), "Powwow Highway" (HERE), "Miss Lead" (59e59), "The Tempest" (various).

"Qui Nguyen's beautiful adventure into 1990s nerd culture is a refreshing window back into the pre-digital age that reminds us that if we take the time to look at the world from someone else's perspective we will not only learn more about the people around us, but about ourselves and the kind of world we can build together if we simply open our ideas of what is possible," said Sayet.

"Playwright Qui Nguyen has quickly become a powerful new voice on the American theatrical landscape, said Artistic Director Michael Bradford. " Like so much of his work, She Kills Monsters has an easy vernacular in the popular world, this time "geek" culture," he continues, "until it does not; until the issues and moments become all too human and our laughter has turned inside out. We are excited to continue to bring new theatrical voices to the Studio Workshop Series at CRT."

The creative team includes: Madeline Sayet (Director), Anna Brewster (Scenic Design), Teddy Carraro (Lighting Design), Darby Newsome (Costume Design), Mitchell Prescott (Sound Design), Eilis Garcia (Dramaturg), Zach Broome (Puppet Design), and Jason Swift (Production Stage Manager).

The cast includes: Vivienne James (Agnes), Alex Brokowski (Tilly), Lily Ling (Vera/Evil Gabbie), Kristen Wolfe (Lilith), Betty Smith (Kaliope), Andrew Smith (Chuck), Perry Madison (Miles), Angus MacLennan (Steve), Nick Greika (Orcus), Noel Williams (Farrah the Faerie), Adrianna Simmons (Narrator/Evil Tina).

Evening performances start at 7:30 pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and at 8:00 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Select matinee performances start at 2:00 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Single tickets are available now. Single tickets range from $10 to $33. All student tickets are $10.

Post-show discussions with members of the cast and crew will follow the performance on Thursday, March 29th at 7:30 pm and the matinee, March 31st at 2:00 pm.
