PAUL ANKA, LORETTA SWIT and JENNIFER SIMARD headline this week's (Friday, April 22) State of the ARTS which airs LIVE Fridays from 12noon to 1pm on WPKN-FM (89.5) in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Co-hosts of the weekly arts & entertainment program are Richard Pheneger and Tom Holehan sitting in for Peggy Nelson.
The legendary Paul ("My Way") Anka is a Canadian-American singer, songwriter, actor and author. With such hit songs as "Diana", "Lonely Boy", "Put Your Head on My Shoulder", and "(You're) Having My Baby," his career was off and running and he hasn't stopped since. On May 13, Paul Anka will appear in concert at the Ridgefield Playhouse in Ridgefield, Connecticut.
Loretta (M*A*S*H) Swit, a two-time Emmy Award-winning actress, will be appearing in the stage play Eleanor Roosevelt: Her Secret Journey at The Klein Auditorium in Bridgeport, Connecticut on Sunday May 1, 2016. Written by Rhoda Lerman,Swit portrays Eleanor in this rewarding one-woman play as a supportive spouse of an American politician to wronged wife to advocate for the rights of those who had no champion.
Jennifer Simard, a four-time Drama Desk and two-time Drama League nominee, is currently reprising her nominated performance as Sr. Mary Downy in Disaster! on Broadway. According to The New York Times, "She plays the role with an unquenchable yen for slot machines, and is pilfering every scene she adorns in the delirious goof of a musical. Disaster! is currently playing the Nederlander Theatre located at 208 W. 41st Street in New York City.
