Pantochino Productions Inc, Connecticut's non-profit theatre company, has announced the cast of its first Pantochino After-Dark production, "The Little Dog Laughed." The comedy will be performed at Arts Hall in New Haven, October 5 –12.
"The Little Dog Laughed" by
Douglas Carter Beane (As Bees In Honey Drown, Xanadu) is a scathing comedy about Hollywood's dirtiest secrets. It follows the adventures of
Mitchell Green, a rising movie star with a secret, and his hard-driving agent Diane who attempts to help him navigate Hollywood's choppy waters.
The sharp-tongued Diane will be played by
Melissa Macleod Herion. Her credits include leading roles at the PlayMakers Repertory Company, Cortland Repertory Theatre, The Theatre Barn, Stageworks/Hudson, Oldcastle Theatre Company and the Leatherstocking Theatre Company, among others.
Pantochino's
Jimmy Johansmeyer will play the role of movie star with a secret,
Mitchell Green. His work has been seen extensively at Downtown Cabaret Theatre, Cortland Repertory Theatre, The Theatre Barn, Millbrook Playhouse, Eastbound Theatre, and NY Stage & Film at Vassar.
Justin Rugg is cast in the role of Alex, a rent boy who falls in love with the movie star. A recent transplant form New Jersey to Connecticut, Rugg has been seen in Pantochino's "Cinderella Skeleton" and "
The Brothers Grimm and a Showgirl" as well as Shoestring Theatre Company's productions of "The Shape of Things" and "The Yellow Umbrella.
In the role of Alex's girlfriend is
Ruth Kennedy, a recent graduate of Northern Kentucky University. Her work includes roles at The Theatre Barn, the Cincinnati Ballet and Cortland Repertory Theatre.
"The Little Dog Laughed" was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Play in 2007. This area premiere production will be directed by
Bert Bernardi. Von Del Mar designs the set with Johansmeyer also serving as costume designer. Seth Harris is lighting designer and the New Haven production will feature the original musical score for the show composed by
Lewis Finn.
