New Shanghai Circus is anything but typical circus fare. It's amped up entertainment to the max! You'll be amazed as this acrobatic troupe of athletes defies gravity and performs feats of circus art that reach breathtaking heights of skill in a spellbinding show. Fearless performers with boundless energy bring more than two thousand years of Chinese circus traditions to life. A vibrant display of jaw-dropping stunts and acrobatics will keep you at the edge of your seat, with acts including pole climbers, hoop-diving, contortionists and so much more. The Ridgefield Playhouse and Ridgefield Academy Family Series welcome the New Shanghai Circus on Friday, March 3 at 4 p.m.
Families will enjoy colorful/authentic costumes while taking in the bravery and expertise of every acrobat featured in the show! State of the art lighting, sound, stunning backdrops, and thrilling musical accompaniments energize every acrobatic performance. From aerial displays to perfectly choreographed routines featuring plate spinning and juggling, the Shanghai Acrobats: The New Shanghai Circus is sure to have you on your feet cheering! Before the show - visit Dimitri's Diner and enjoy 10% off your meal when tickets are presented. The Shanghai Acrobats are partially underwritten by Books on the Common. Media sponsor is 98Qfm.
Circus fans are bound to appreciate the young women spinning six plates at a time atop sticks, while one goes through incredible contortions without ever dropping a dish. Everyone will be amazed by the woman who stacks chair atop chair on a fragile foundation of four vases and makes her way acrobatically to the pinnacle of this rickety structure, and the man who juggles a huge jar on his back and shoulders. Balancing an ungainly structure of more than 20 wooden benches on his head is made to look very easy for one performer, while another manages to lie horizontally with no apparent support but the point of a sword placed against the back of her neck.
For tickets ($40 Adults, $30 Children), call the box office at 203-438-5795, or visit ridgefieldplayhouse.org. The Ridgefield Playhouse is a non-profit performing arts center located at 80 East Ridge, parallel to Main Street, Ridgefield, CT.
