The weekend of June 24 through 26, the Teen Company of New Britain Youth Theater (NBYT) will perform Thornton Wilder's OUR TOWN at the Hole in the Wall Theater in downtown New Britain.

Our Town is a 1938 Pulitzer Prize-winning three-act play by American playwright Thornton Wilder. The play tells the story of the fictional American town of Grover's Corners, New Hampshire, between 1901 and 1913 through everyday events in the lives of its citizens. Wilder used several theatrical gimmicks, setting the play in the actual theater where it is being performed, and having several characters speak directly to the audience. The play is traditionally performed without a set (other than two tables and chairs), and the actors typically mime their actions without the use of props. Although period costuming was originally used and often still is, the play is now performed just as frequently in modern dress to emphasize its timelessness. Over twenty teen actors and crew members from throughout central Connecticut are involved in the production.

NBYT Executive Director Darren Farrington, who co-directs the play with Angela Klimaytis, says that NBYT has always aimed to produce classics along with newer and original plays and musicals. "Our Town is one of our country's great plays," Farrington says. "It's been among the most-produced plays by high schools and other teen groups for eight decades for a reason. The play teaches a lesson about slowing down and enjoying the small moments in life that's probably even more relevant today than it was in 1938."

Our Town will be performed at Hole in the Wall Theater, located at 116 Main Street in New Britain. Performances, all open to the public, are Friday, June 24, at 8:00 p.m.; Saturday, June 25, at 8:00 p.m.; and Sunday, June 26, at 2:00 p.m. Ticket prices are $15 for adults and $13 for students and seniors.
