A Christmas movie that quickly became a classic takes to the stage at New Britain Youth Theater this December.
The youth theater's holiday musical, Elf the Musical! Jr, is based on the hit holiday film starring Will Ferrell as Buddy the Elf. The story follows Buddy, a human who grew up thinking he was an elf, on his adventure from the North Pole to New York City to find his family and help them remember the true meaning of Christmas. (The "junior" version of the musical is slightly adapted for young actors and audience.) The performances are directed by Darren Farrington, musical directed by Angela Klimaytis, and choreographed by Chelsea Derby. The Community Foundation of Greater New Britain is sponsor of the production.
The musical stars over fifty children ages 5 through 17 from throughout Connecticut, and it is appropriate for audiences of all ages. "Our youngest cast members play the North Pole elves," said Farrington, "and older children are New Yorkers at Buddy's dad's work and New York City attractions like Macy's department store, Rockefeller Center, and Central Park.
Elf the Musical! Jr will be performed at Holmes Elementary School, a community space located at 2150 Stanley Street in New Britain. Performances are Friday, December 9, at 7:00 p.m.; Saturday, December 10, at 7:00 p.m.; and Sunday, December 11 at 2:00 p.m. Ticket prices are $13 for adults and $11 for children, students, and seniors. Tickets may be reserved by calling New Britain Youth Theater at 860-515-8115 or may be purchased online at www.nbyt.org.
