New Britain Youth Theater will bring African savannas and jungles to life as it produces Disney's The Lion King Jr. as its summer musical. Based on the Disney film about a lion cub's shameful journey away from home and back again in pride, the musical is an adaptation for young performers and audiences of the award-winning Broadway hit written by Elton John and Tim Rice.
Along with Simba, Nala, Timon, Pumbaa, and other favorites from Disney's blockbuster of the screen and stage, over forty children and teens from throughout Connecticut will participate on stage and behind the scenes. In addition to the lead roles, an ensemble will create the animals and landscape of the African pridelands, deserts, and jungles. The Lion King Jr will be performed at Holmes Elementary School, a community space located at 2150 Stanley Street in New Britain. Performances are Friday, July 28, at 7:00 p.m.; Saturday, July 29, at 7:00 p.m.; and Sunday, July 30, at 2:00 p.m. Ticket prices are $13 for adults and $11 for children, students, and seniors. Tickets may be reserved by calling New Britain Youth Theater at 860-515-8115 or may be purchased online through a link at www.nbyt.org. Tickets will also be available to purchase at the door for all performances.Videos
