The National Theatre of the Deaf announced the Second Annual Theatre Immersion Program (TIP) in association with the American School for the Deaf from August 8 through 18th at the ASD Campus at 139 North Main Street in West Hartford, CT.
TIP is an all-encompassing, ten-day summer program for high school-aged theatre enthusiasts from seven states including: California, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Vermont and Virginia.
The program offers studentstraining opportunities specializing in NTD's theatricalized American Sign Language. The students are engaged in classes and workshops, script development, rehearsals, guest lectures and demonstrations. The students will also perform with the actors from NTD, resulting in a sample tour to venues in
Connecticut, including the NTD production of It's in the Bag, at Hygienic Art Park in New London.
Executive Director Betty Beekman remarked, "Participants greatly benefit from this hands-on, annual opportunity to eat, sleep, and breathe theatre! It is a unique experience!"
Funding for NTD is provided by: The Beatrice Fox Auerbach Foundation at the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving; J. Walton Bissell Foundation; Ensworth Charitable Foundation and Frank Loomis Palmer Fund, Bank of America, N.A., Trustee; Eugene O'Neill Theater Center; Frederick Loewe Foundation; Hygienic Art; Edward C. and Ann T. Roberts Foundation; Veolia, City of New London Water Authority Community Fund; with the support of the State of Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development, Connecticut Office of the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts and our kind donors.
