After a long, cold, snowy winter, there's no better way to turn on the heat than Jorgensen's annual Latin Fest. Dance the night away to the irresistible beat of salsa and merengue with headliners Melina León & Kevin Ceballo. Also on the program are DJ Wil G and a dance performance by UConn's Latin Dance Club, BAILE. It all takes place on Saturday, April 2, at 8 pm at Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts on the University of Connecticut campus in Storrs.
Talented Puerto Rican merengue singer Melina León used to participate in festivals and music contests when she was a child. After being discovered by a local label executive, Melina León had the opportunity to make her first record in 1997, calling it Mujeres Liberadas, followed by 1998's Con Los Pies Sobre La Tierra, produced by Eduardo Reyes. Soon after, she was climbing Puerto Rican charts with "Me Voy De Fiesta" and debuting as a composer with a song called "Te Amo." After issuing Baño de Luna, the singer was awarded for Best Female Merengue Record by Premios Tu Musica 2000. She has since been performing as an actress and has received several popular awards and had several more successful albums and singles on the Billboard Tropical and Latin charts.
If you like young heartthrob R&B salsa by the likes of Marc Anthony, Anthony Cruz, Jerry Rivera, or Huey Dunbar, then vocalist Kevin Ceballo, with his model looks and glossy sheen, is for you. Puerto Rican-descendant tropical salsa singer/songwriter Kevin Ceballo attended New York's High School of Music and Art, popularized in the movie Fame, where he started composing, soon forming a band called Genuine Image. After participating in Isidro Infante's la Elite, Kevin Ceballo began his solo career, recording Mi Primer Amor, released by RMM Records, which was named Revelation of the Year in the tropical category by Univisión's lo Nuestro. He has performed with La India, Celia Cruz, Tito Puente and Eddie Palmieri.
