Connecticut-based husband-wife duo Mates of State will be performing at The Space in Hamden this Friday, May 27th reports the Hartford Courant. The couple has been churning out harmony-heavy keyboard and drum-propelled indie pop gems since 1997. Jason Hammel and Kori Gardner have described themselves as a "he and she music factory," though the pair has pushed its punchy sound in increasingly complex directions recently.
For more than a year, the Mates have been hard at work on the official follow-up to 2008's "Re-Arrange Us," taking minor detours along the way to release a collection of covers and join Biz Markie for a series of Yo Gabba Gabba live shows. With its new album in the can and set for release sometime this summer, the band's longest tour-less stretch in years is sure to come to an end soon.
While it awaits an official album release date, Mates of State will show off several new songs when it plays The Space, 295 Treadwell St. in Hamden, on Friday. Brooklyn-via-Wesleyan band Bear Hands and the Lonely Forest open. Tickets for the 7 p.m. show are $15. Info: 203-288-6400 or thespace.tk.
