Long Wharf Theatre Announces Non-Equity Auditions for TIGER TIGER TIGER 1/8-1/11

Long Wharf Theatre invites local Non-Equity actors ages 14 to 60 to audition for the musical Tiger Tiger Tiger to be produced by the Next Stage Program, a program for early career theatre professionals.

Tiger Tiger Tiger, a musical for young audiences written by Mac Wellman, with music by Michael Roth, will take place April 6-9. Maryna Harrison, Long Wharf Theatre's artistic resident, will direct the show. Annie DiMartino, director of education, will be the musical director. Members of the theatre's Next Stage program will also be designing the show. "These are the artists of the future designing and creating shows for the audiences of the future," said DiMartino, administrator of the program.

Auditions for the show will be held on January 8-9 from 11:00 - 5:00 and January 10-11 from 6:00 - 10:00 at Long Wharf Theatre. Rehearsals are tentatively scheduled to begin the first week in February. Reservations can be made by calling 203-787-4282.

No monologues are necessary, but actors should come prepared to read sides from the show and to sing 16 bars from a rock musical (Thirteen, Little Shop of Horrors or Seussical are suggestions). Candidates should bring a headshot, resume and any potential rehearsal conflicts. Actor/musicians who play piano, bass, guitar or drums are a plus. Actors of all ethnicities encouraged to audition. There is no pay.

"I am looking for smart, vibrant and confident performers. It is a play with big characters in it and there is a lot of room for actors to bring their own creativity to the roles. It is not a prescriptive play - there is room for a lot of interpretation," Harrison said.

Grown-ups are mysteriously disappearing and tigers seem to be to blame. After their Uncle Celery is abducted, two kids embark on a tiger-hunting quest. Their journey leads them from the upper east side of New York City to the deserts of New Mexico and ultimately to the moon. Tiger Tiger Tiger is a lyrical and multi-layered adventure for children that explores dreams, violence, and growing up in a grown-up world.
