On Friday May 13, see Broadway stars Kelli O'Hara, Robin de Jesus, Chip Zien, David Friedman, Janelle Robinson and Jodi Stevens in concert in Summer Theatre of New Canaan's Gala Evening "Getting to Know You" held at Woodway Country Club in Darien, CT.
The evening features performances by Broadway Tony Award-Winning actress Kelli O'Hara, star of The King and I, South Pacific, Bridges of Madison County, Light in the Piazza and The Pajama Game (with Harry Connick Jr.). She will be joined with Broadway friends of the Summer Theatre, including two-time Tony nominee Robin de Jesus, Broadway composer and national cabaret star David Friedman and Broadway veterans Janelle Robertson, Jodi Stevens and Chip Zien. Also, a performance by cast members from this summer's West Side Story, and by the Performing Arts Conservatory of New Canaan Children Chorus.
"This evening should be a night to remember!" says Melody Meitrott Libonati, the theatre's founding artistic director. "People rarely have the opportunity to experience such great artists performing in an intimate festive setting and we are so appreciative of them generously sharing their talent."
The Gala Evening is also to honor the late W. Andrew Macbeth Clarkson, a local philanthropist and patron of the theatre company whose family foundation's support and guidance helps many arts and other non-profit organizations recognize their potential. "Andrew has left a legacy that will impact the arts and quality of life in Connecticut for many years to come," adds Libonati.
Gala Evening festivities begin May 13 at Woodway Country Club in Darien at 6pm with a cocktail party, dinner at 7pm and the concert at 8pm. A reception with Kelli O'Hara and the stars will follow the performance for patron level ticket holders. Attire is festive. Gala Evening tickets begin at $250, Patron Tickets at $500 and tables of 10 begin at $5000. Evening proceeds go to support the theatre's upcoming 13th professional season presenting West Side Story and musicals for young family audiences Roald Dahl's James and the Giant Peach, and Cinderella, A Fairy's Tale; to support their theatre for young audience touring outreach program to schools and their award winning education programs: DramaRamas (for children with special needs), Junior Company for middle school age, Pre-College High School Theatre Intensive and professional College Internship Program. The Summer Theatre of New Canaan presents professionally produced Broadway musicals, Theatre for Young Audiences, special theatrical events and educational programs.
